Questions I can't answer

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. -Hebrews 1:1-3 (NIV)

There are a lot of things I do not understand about God. So I got questions. Sometimes I wonder if some of them might sound borderline blasphemous, but I don't intend them that way. For instance, if Jesus was God, why did He pray? Is the Spirit living inside us actually the non-physical form of Jesus Himself, or is He His own thing? Is it a misnomer if I pray to Jesus or the Holy Spirit, instead of to God the Father?

You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. -Romans 8:9-11 (NIV)

Jesus was present with God the Father in the beginning and participated in the creation. In Hebrews 1, as in Colossians 1, it's clear that He was very hands on, perhaps the architect of the project. For Father, Son, and Spirit, there is no argument, no lobbying for preeminence. If I asked, "Which One of you decided to create the universe?" or "Which of you laid out the plans?" or "Who engineered the design on all the details?" or "Which One formed and assembled all the pieces?", I'm pretty sure the answer would be, "I AM did all that."

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. -Colossians 1:15-17 (NIV)

Extending that a step further, if I asked, "Which of you saved mankind?", I think the answer would be the same. God visited earth, entering human history at a specific time in the form of a physical human man, to consummate the salvation of mankind. At the same time, God was still Spirit - eternal, timeless, in all, over all, directing all, listening to all the prayers of all His people, including those of Jesus. How can this be? Because He is GOD - omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent. Separate, but still One.

I don't always have to "get it". Frankly, if I understood everything there is to know about God, He probably wouldn't be big enough to be God. Not to mention the fact that my finite little brain might explode if He were to answer all my questions at once. As it is, I know the GOD of the universe knows me and loves me. He revealed Himself in the person of Jesus Christ, so that I could know and love Him, even as there are gaps in what I understand about Him. He isn’t offended by my wondering; amused, perhaps, though I doubt whether any of my musings are very original. Knowing the Who gives me confidence, even when the what, the why, and the how are unclear.

Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory. -1 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
